Tikka Serial Number Year Chart
OK, I found the modern Tikka M595. Disregard the history. That last post would have scared me! Did you buy it new? If you are a second or so owner, do you know what year it was purchased. I can't find any table for serial numbers in SAKO data. You may try giving Beretta a call in MD.
Like the subject line says, here's what I have to date. These numbers have been collected from posts here on the forum, from Gunbroker, what I've seen in person, and years ago, what Tuco collected here. Also, Doug Bowser and I traded numbers that are included in 'Rifle's of the White Death'.If anyone has any additions, PM me and I'll add them.An interesting observation: The number of serial numbers in my database of any given model is pretty much indicative of the number of rifles still in existence - or very, very roughly so. One flaw that I know of though is the m/39 VKT's. They are under represented as the numbers are not stamped very deeply and therefore hard to read on Gunbroker. Here is the link to the Finnish Army data:and the Civil Guard data:Last edited by ole fred; at 08:52 PM.Reason: Trying to make the links work.
I have two M27's that fall outside of the ranges.1932 Tikka M27 40828. According to known serial #'s, this one should be a 1931.1939 Tikka M27 85974.
According to known serial #'s, this one should be a 1940.FIRST: I had mistakes in the 1939 & 40 m/27's that have been corrected. It was my mistake. Your 85974 is definitely a 1939 and not in the corrected 1940 range. As for your 40828 m/27, you have one of three that are out of sequence. 40783 & 43905 are the others.
I have no idea of why. But then again, they're Finnish and you can never say never, etc. Hey fred, this one is confusing. The thread speaks for it's self, but I just noticed while looking at your data that all M28's have a date? This one doesn't. There is a number on the right side of the barrel, however it is preceded by an 'S', so I thought it was a civil guard number.
That number IS how ever stamped on the bolt, and under the butt plate. Check the thread and tell me what you think.I'm a little confused. I don't see where I say that all m/28's have dates. I guess they're dated on the bottom of the barrel, but not anywhere visible without taking the barrel out.As for your link and Tikka m/28, I like it.
Tikka's are a minority. It is pretty common to see the 'S' number stamped on the bolt, but maybe not on the later ones. This was really common on the m/91-24's.Any specific questions??? I'm a little confused. I don't see where I say that all m/28's have dates.

You do not list dates at all for M28's. I guess my specific question is, are the serials listed for the Tikkas serials, or Civil guard numbers, or both?
It seems I am being confused by serial number, and civil guard number. I have always thought they we two different numbers.
If they are two different numbers, where would mine fit in your chart?Only thing under the barrel on this one is an assembly/production number 8607.All my other rifles fit within your charts. The M28 is the only one I was scratching my head about.Mosinnagant.net's server is up now, and I'm confused still. Amp authentic man program power of integrity service. I mis-read your chart.

All of my numbers are numeric serial numbers until you get to the m/91-24's. On the m/28's, it is the number on the lower left side of the barrel chamber. The Finn's quite often used the 'S' number on the lower right side of the barrel chamber to match the bolt. Who knows, that's just the way it is.BTW, I do like your Tikka m/28.
I'm not much of a SIG m/28 fan but especially like the late Tikka's with the SAKO proof on the side.To answer your question of where your 26680 fits, it's midway in the Tikka production. Also, there is no correlation between the 'official serial number' and the 'S' number.Read this to get a better understanding of the 'S' numbers. It's confusing but.

I always assumed it was a crossed out civil guard number. Thanks for waking my retired butt up!OK.they all fit now. If a guy could get his hands on the first or last serial numbers in Fred's documented ranges, would it have any impact on the value of his firearm? Thanks for your years of labor documenting these numbers.
I expect that I will refer to your charts for years to come.I doubt it would affect value as the last number can change at any time. I add numbers almost daily, but seldom come up with any that are the extremes on either end. It's an interesting thought though. FWIW, I know who owns many of the extremes - at least by user ID.
